PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
